191 - Nachos with Delan 🏈
In queso you’re wondering about snacks for the big game in a few weeks, we’ve reached out to our friend Delan Perera about his relation-chip with the city’s best nachos. He’s been doing the rounds since moving to London last summer and while he’s nacho average foodie, we think you’ll appreciate this little Q&A about his faves so far…1
Localist: Who’s making your favourite nachos right now? 💘
Delan: My favourite has to be The Club House’s “Ultimate Club House Nachos.” The tortilla chips are crispy, the cheese is a blend of monterey jack and Canadian cheddar, and they spice it up with charred corn pico de gallo, jalapeños, and banana peppers before topping it off with shredded iceberg lettuce, green onions, sour cream, fire roasted pepper salsa and your choice of protein (I go for the Pulled Pork). The serving is HUGE and the whole thing is the most fun—and most messy—eating experience I’ve had in London so far.

L: Who’s serving up the best take-out nachos? 🚗
D: My go-to to-go is Burrito Boyz. The friendly staff and fresh ingredients play into the decision, but their creamy chili lime burrito and homemade XXX hot sauces seal the deal. Add some steak 🥩 to the mix and things get real. Just don’t let me catch you digging in while driving home—because nachos are nachos, and they will always be messy. Eat responsibly, folks.

L: What’s the most surprising plate of nachos you’ve had since moving here? 😮
D: Wortley’s own El Poco Lobo serves up a “Nachos Supreme” that includes bison 🐃! Spice it up with some hot sauce and it’s easily my favourite thing on their entire menu (hot take: I’d argue it’s even better than their tacos 🔥). Serving-wise, the dish is big enough to satisfy one person but it also works as a nice app…if you're willing to share 😉.

L: Who’s got the best nachos to feed the most people? 👯♀️
D: It’s hard not to say Los Lobos for this one. They say their Nacho platter feeds “four to six,” but I’ve seen it easily feed 8 college/university students… on a Friday night…before dinner. But it’s not just big, this $50 monstrosity is also loaded with tons of great toppings, including: carnita, black beans, jalapeños, all the cheese you could imagine, guac, corn, pico de gallo, scallions, cilantro, radish, sour cream and chipotle aioli! 🤤

🚨 BONUS QUESTION!
L: What local beer(s) are you going to wash these nachos down with? 🍻
D: I asked a few local breweries for their top picks (see below), but I’m personally going with Forked River’s Snap Decision Munich Helles Lager on account of their partnership with my favourite former Ti-Cats player (who also played for the ‘stangs) Andy Fantuz! #notsponsored
Storm Stayed Brewing Co. recommends their Keets American Lagrer or Sunburst Pale Ale.
Toboggan offers their Holy Roller Lager or Lunatic Fridge IPA.
Anderson Craft Ales suggest their Cream Ale or Belgian Dubbel.
London Brewing would pour a Bark at the Moon Cerveza, or their Organic Hazy IPA.
Forked River Brewing Company has the above-mentioned Snap Decision Munich Helles Lager or their Loco - Hazy Kveik IPA.
