With the Lighting of the Lights down at Victoria Park tomorrow night, it’s safe to say this city is officially in a holiday mood. Chances are, no matter what you’re celebrating over the next few weeks, there will be some special attention paid to “light” in one way or another… Which is why we figured it’d be a bright idea to dedicate this list to some of our favourite local lights.

City Lights Bookshop has been “defending culture” since 1975 and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon—which is awesome news for fans of used books, vinyl, comics, and those winding, packed aisles that make the place such a local treasure. 💖

Turns out all this light we’re celebrating ain’t the best for birds on the move—which is why Londoners collectively turned the lights out last spring to help our feathered friends make their migration a little easier. 🦢
