180 - Spooky Sounds 💀🎧
With Halloween just a few days away, there’s still lots of time to treat your ears to some of the city’s spookiest sounds. Here’s a few of our freakiest favourites!
Ryan Gosling’s Dead Man’s Bones ☠️
Did you know London’s very own Ryan Gosling released a spooky album back in 2009?!?
Billed as “a striking collection of doo-wop songs about werewolves…zombies with broken hearts, and children singing the joys and pains of being alive or being dead1” it’s totally worth a listen.
Read more about the project on Pitchfork here and then go watch the mini-documentary!
The Babysitter (Steve’s Anthem) 🙃
Local power-pop nostalgia-rockers Hello Kelly have a knack for turning things upside down…which makes it all the less surprising to learn they’ve written a theme song for everybody’s favourite bat-wielding babysitter from Stranger Things: Steve Harrington. Turn it up!
Werewolves of London, Ontario 🐺
Do we care that B.A. Johnston’s latest album, “Werewolves of London, Ontario” doesn’t mention the city outside of its title? Not really. Throw former Londoner, Paul Hammond’s artwork into the mix and there’s no way we’re leaving it off this spooky list. Read/listen to Chris dela Torre’s interview with Johnston here.
The Spooky Sound of London ♾
We could drone on about Test Market’s recording of their first monthly collective improvisation all day…but we’ll let you listen for yourself instead: Side A, Side B.
BONUS SPOOKINESS! 🚨
Farhi CVLT Blackmetal ⚡️
Yikes! The heavy metal-inspired typography on this shirt from Antler Press pairs so well with Farhi’s grip on the city’s (vacant) buildings, it’s scary.

Soft & Spooky Playlist 👻 🍂
If you enjoyed our feature on soft flirt’s “Lost Loves of London” design last week, we’ve got a hunch you’ll also enjoy her “slightly haunted fall” autumnal playlist featuring “big fall energy with a little side of halloween vibes.” Listen here.
