193 - Black History Month 🗓
We may be halfway through Black History Month—but there’s still lots of ways to join the celebration! Here’s a few particular events we’re looking forward to.
📺 Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Miss the opening ceremonies? Rogers tv is re-running the special this Monday Feb 20th at 8pm, and again on Thursday, Feb 23rd at 9pm.
Of course, the closing ceremonies at Wolf Performance Hall are still to come, too. Tickets for the Feb 25th event are available online here.
🏆 Essence and Culture Awards
The London AfroCentric Community Association is happy to present their second annual Essence and Culture Awards on Saturday February 19th at Aeolian Hall. The event recognizes the contributions of nearly 90 nominees across the arts, education, medicine, community service, and more!
🌍 YaYa’s Kitchen
Explore the global Black experience through food with YayYa’s Kitchen over the next two Saturdays!
📽 Do the Right Thing
Hailed as “the finest, the most controversial, most discussed and most important film of 1989” The Hyland Cinema is playing Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing on Sunday Feb 26th at 5pm.
📚 Read Along with the Library
With the help of W.E.A.N Community Centre, the London Public Library’s Black History Month spotlight now features 80+ “current, well-reviewed fiction and nonfiction titles that reflect the experiences and voices of Black Canadians.”
