181 - Covered, Vol.1 🙃
Sure, this city’s got a growing number of talented musicians writing, recording and performing original music worth celebrating…but we’ll save that list for another day. Today’s list is reserved for five local renditions of songs made famous by somebody else.
Whether you’re into country, metal, or early 90s hip-hop—we’ve got you covered 👇
1. Kevin’s Bacon Train x Jovi, G’N’R (and more!) 🤘
We’ll start with KBT’s bluegrass ode to Hair Metal. Why? Because a) they pack a tonne of riffage into ten minutes and b) see a).
2. B.A. Baracus Band x LL Cool J 🥊
If you ever enjoyed a pint of Guinness down at the Brass Door (RIP), like us, you were probably knocked off your feet the first time you heard this duo’s tribute to LL Cool J’s biggest hit. 💥
3. Yuri George Jan Pool x The Beatles 🎸
Remember that time local Paul McCartney sound-alike Yuri George Jan Pool shut down Dundas Street (in the snow) to re-create the Beatles famous rooftop concert?!? ❄️
4. Jane’s Party ft Shad, pHoenix Paggliaci and Tom Moffett x Dolly & Kenny 🏝
Shad’s given us a taste of his vocal chops before (see: Your Boy Tony Braxton) but put him in the forest with a few friends and one of Country Music’s all-time duets and you’re set to sail away to another world. ⛵️
5. Baptized in Blood x Jim Chapman/Mayor Fontana 🩸
You know who took the opportunity to take this this innocent little earworm (from Mayor Fontana’s annual breakfast back in 2012) in a completely different direction? Look no further than London’s Baptized in Blood. Buckle your seatbelts… 😐
