139 - Our London Family 💚
There are few words left to capture the sorrow, anger, regret and pain we’re feeling in light of last week’s hate-fueld act of blatant anti-Muslim terrorism in our city.
Â
As a publication dedicated to celebrating the people and experiences that make London home, we pause this week to stand with our Muslim neighbours experiencing this city with increased fear and anxiety, even as their resolve grows.
It is past time to hold our politicians to account for neglected promises, past time to excuse ourselves for thinking we don’t have a problem with hate in this city, in ourselves.
May we hold this time and inhabit this space—as uncomfortable it is for some, as unbearable as it is for others—and walk toward all that would push us apart.Â
There are many steps to take, but in the spirit of the small, tangible acts The Localist hopes to encourage, perhaps our very next one is to join the city’s faith communities in Friday’s Multi-Faith March to End Hatred.
For those taken*, for the greater Muslim community, for this city, and for every neighbour who deserves to walk our streets without fear.
*Though names have been made public, we’re not publishing them here in lieu of the privacy requested of the family via the London Muslim Mosque.
