136 - Meet Barbara 👋
With Mother’s Day this weekend, we figured the timing was perfect to introduce our editor’s mom: Barbara Kingsley. An avid gardener who'll talk up her neighbours any chance she gets, we were excited to ask her about the city she's called home for over 50 years now...
1. What’s one of London’s best-kept secrets? 🦃
My street! Everybody is so friendly and welcoming and takes the time to stop and talk or lend you their roasting pan on Christmas Day if your turkey won’t fit (true story). Editor’s note: Mom lives on the eastern edge of Oakridge.
2. What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday in London? 🐦
Sitting on my front porch with a book and stopping to chat with neighbours as they pass by OR sitting out back and watching the birds at the feeder—the choice between the two just depends on what sort of hair-day I’m having 😜!
3. Tell us about the last London thing you recommended to friends. 🍓
Heeman's is my happy place! They’ve got so many flowers, great strawberries and excellent service. Also, Wild Birds Unlimited helps me keep the aforementioned birds happy.
4. What are you looking forward to in London this year? 🥾
I’m looking forward to exploring my neighbourhood even more (despite its lack of sidewalks 😉) and then venturing out to enjoy some of the city’s hiking trails.
5. Who should Londoners be paying attention to? ❤️
Right now: each other. It’s a challenging time and people need to be heard, affirmed, understood and uplifted.
