Meet Taylor 👋
Keeping things musical, this week’s interview features musician Taylor Holden, who plays in a rock and roll band, and teaches guitar at London Girls Rock Camp. Here’s her take on some of London’s best kept secrets, and where you’ll find her biking (hint: everywhere)...
1. What’s one of London’s best-kept secrets? 🌮
True Taco is hands-down one of my favourite places in London! If you know, you know, and I can’t say enough good things about them. A lot of people think it closed, but they're still in the Market at Western Fair District. I highly recommend the huarache and papusas, and what is—in my opinion—the best salsa in London!
2. What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday in London? 🚂
Saturday is the superior day, even if I'm working. On my perfect Saturday, I would probably bring a book to Locomotive and sit on the patio. Then, I would hit up the Springbank bike path. Like many Londoners, I’ve really come to value the incredible outdoor spaces our city offers! Afterward, I would wander Dundas Place to visit Filthy Rebena and The Whale Tea. Later in the evening, I would grab a beer at the London Brewing Co-op.
3. Tell us about the last London thing you recommended to friends. 🌻
There’s something to slowing down on a walk and exploring neighbourhoods. I always find something new, from micro-parks tucked into neighbourhoods or houses with great gardens.
4. What are you looking forward to in London this year? 🔥🥤
Something I’m excited about is my new band Hot Soda, which will be releasing some new music! This band has a huge emphasis on paying women to collaborate with us, and creating a space for female artists. It would be so awesome to do a concert and hang out with our collaborators, who have been recording separately and sending their parts to us.
5. Who should Londoners be paying attention to? 👀
I’m continually reminded of the vast pool of people in London that are doing cool things! The folks at City Rest have created an interesting space to pay attention to, for local artists like Rezonance Printing, Flourish and Grow, and others.
