Meet Alex 👋
As president of Forest City Gallery and Events & Outreach Facilitator with Fanshawe’s Downtown campus, localist Alex Jaworiwsky is well acquainted with this city’s art and events scenes. She knows what’s going down...which is why we’re excited to make the introduction this week!
1. What’s one of London’s best-kept secrets? 🤫
Although Kains Woods might not be a secret, I’ll give you my favourite way in to enjoy it 🌳 … 👀. Note: If you bring your dog, be wary of coyotes. I might have seen some things this summer I can’t forget.
2. What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday in London? ❤️
My favourite Saturdays have lately included a Downie Street Bakehouse sourdough pickup from The Market; front porch (socially-distanced) coffee hangs ft. Reset oat milk lattes; walks along the North-East branch of the Thames Valley Parkway; a wander down Dundas Place to grab a snack, or pick up my MANY holds from the Library (no fines! yay!); and then checking in on #ldnont on Twitter to say “⁉️” to something.
3. Tell us about the last London thing you recommended to friends. 🗣️
The last recommendation I made was a triple: Ginger molasses cookies at Sidetrack Café in Wortley, green curry udon from Meesai Thai in Byron, and Oxford Book Shop to bypass Amaz*n/Ind*go for new books.
4. What are you looking forward to in London this year? 🤞
Seeing as I’m pretending that 2020 is over, I’m looking at 2021 for a renewal of community, togetherness, and belonging. I’m really banking on the vaccines, so primarily I’m thinking hugs. But also: boredom, murals (murals, murals), cool people doing rad things to stoke community, eating Ethipoian with 30 of my closest friends (all from the same plates), and being way too close to sweaty, happy bodies at a live show. A gal can dream.
5. Who should Londoners be paying attention to? 👀
She’s been mentioned before, but paying attention to what’s happening at council is pretty easy if you follow Megan Stacey on twitter. At the end of the day, our municipal government impacts us way more than provincial and federal governments and it’s the easiest one to participate in. Win-win-win-win-win.
