Meet Catherine 👋
Catherine Coreno is something of an events enthusiast—working with local and national events through the Wolf Performance Hall, and promoting London events as co-founder of Poster! Poster!.
We reached out to ask what she’s been excited about in London these days, and how Londoners can continue to support live events. Here's what she had to say...
1. What’s one of London’s best-kept secrets? 🤫
I am biased as an employee—and maybe it's not a secret, but hear me out—the London Public Library. I don't think people know the full extent of what the library has to offer. One thing I am particularly excited about is Creativebug, an online database of crafting classes taught by recognized design experts and artists. They also launched musical instrument lending earlier this year. Did I mention there's a recording studio at Central that you can book for free?
2. What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday in London? ❤️
That's easy! I live in OEV, so the Western Fair Market on Saturday is a must. I have been baking a lot during quarantine, but if I haven't made a loaf, I make sure to pick one up at Artisan Bakery. I also love to pop into Freeborn and Co for some shopping. This summer I frequented the Anderson's Craft Ales ice cream window and checked out their outdoor movie nights in partnership with Odyssey Records.
3. Tell us about the last London thing you recommended to friends. 🗣️
Meadowlilly Trail. It's a serene hike, nestled right in the Forest City, although you feel like you've gotten away. It has become the site of many a socially-distanced friend hang.
4. What are you looking forward to in London this year? 😁
Every year, the Wolf Performance Hall hosts the Forest City Film Festival. This year will be a little different, as the Festival will be virtual, but you still get to enjoy the great list of curated films featuring local talent, from the comfort of your couch—although I am partial to the Wolf's seats.
5. Who should Londoners be paying attention to? 👀
Not who, but what! As someone who works at a venue that is closed due to COVID restrictions, I encourage Londoners to seek out local entertainment and support an industry that is working hard to pivot online. I know we are all over Zoom, but consider participating in a Yaymaker virtual paint night, or checking out The Aeolian's Phoenix sessions, tuning in to the next City Symposium or The Grand's upcoming Un-Opening Night!
