Meet Andres 👋
-
Localist Andres Garzon is easily one of our favourite London artists. Having an eye for details the rest of us often miss, we were excited to get a glimpse of this city from his perspective!
Q: What’s one of London’s best-kept secrets?
🤫
A: Queens Park (Dundas and Quebec) is one of the most beautiful public areas I've visited this year, and it's always nearly empty! Beautiful sun, big, shady trees—it's got everything a park should have. It's right behind the Western Fair Market, so it's perfect for a small picnic.
-
Q:What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday in London? ❤️
A: I try and get down to the Western Fair Market in the mornings with a friend, enjoying the smell of cinnamon and powdered sugar from the Fritter Shop, sitting by the big second-floor windows, drawing with coffee from Fire Roasted. A visit to Silk Road (second-hand store), and - under normal circumstances—drinks and dancing at Lavish Nightclub at night, with my very best friends.
-
Q: Tell us about the last London thing you recommended to friends. 🗣️
A: So Inviting! It is, hands down, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The owners are wonderful, generous, joyful people. The food speaks for itself. You have to try it out!
-
Q: What are you looking forward to in London this year? 🤞
A: My favorite season is summer, but my wardrobe looks best in the fall. With most big public events canceled, it means I'll be playing lots of dress up in my room—sporting anything fun and colourful I can find from my favourite Goodwill, Silk Road, Old East Village Exchange, Back to the Fusia, Filthy Rebena, and Shop Sundrenched.
-
Q: Who should Londoners be paying attention to? 👂
A: Black Lives Matter London. It has been no easy feat to activate our city when it comes to dismantling the racist systems we see all over. The three young Black women who have spearheaded this project, along with so many other passionate and hard-working Black and Indigenous folk, remind us of the relentless work we must do to ensure all of our marginalized community members are treated as equals and are safe.
Life Spin—an incredible, volunteer-driven organization has long been at the forefront of providing opportunity and generosity to the many houseless people in our community. They manage many programs, food donations, a complete free store and so much more.
BONUS!
Andres is also a resident artist at Good Sport—which is currently running their 5 year anniversary show until September 26. This group exhibition (at their new location) isn't one you'll want to miss! More info here. 🎨
