066 - Unchained ⛓️
We’re always stoked when locally-owned businesses make gains on the less-than-local chains around this city. Which is why we’re dedicating this week’s list to six businesses who’ve recently beat out their corporate counterparts in the 2019 edition of the London Free Press’ annual “Best of London” contest.
🌐 Start at the Start
Beating out the red and white (Rogers), winner of “Best Internet Service Provider” Start proves that friendliness really does make a difference.
🚗 Tired of the Triangle
Rolling past Canadian Tire for title of “Best Tire Store,” Hanford’s Tire & Service has been serving London and area since 1986 out of their garages on Wharncliffe and Ridout. They may not have their own currency, but you know every dollar spent at Hanford’s stands a better chance of rolling around London that much longer.
💻 Superior Service
They’ve recently pivoted from sales to IT support, but Superior Computers’ service last year found them besting Best Buy for “Best Computer Store.”
🧰 Owning it
Springbank Drive’s Kensal Rental owns it this year, beating out Home Depot for “Best Equipment Rental Shop.” With 50 years in the business, we’re not surprised.
👜 In winning Fashion...
Moda di Giuliana takes the “Win” over Winners for “Best Women’s Clothing Store,” while Channers beat out Collins Formal Wear for “Best Men’s Clothing Store.”
🙏 Bonus Kudos:
To all the local businesses occupying both Winner and Runner-Up spaces across so many of the contest’s other categories! And: to all you Localists out there supporting the livelihoods of your neighbours, friends and fellow citizens!
