032 - Walk on the Wild Side š±
Londonās āForest Cityā moniker has stuck around for a reason: even as the concrete jungle encroaches, thereās still a lot of nature around us. Hereās a few of our favourite ways to get someĀ Vitamin N(ature) within the city limits!
š¶ Wet ānā Wild
Thereās still work to be done cleaning it up, but the river running through this city is an under-utilized, natural asset that we should allĀ get back to. So dip your paddle, hoist your sails, and float on.
Ā
š¾ Creature Capers
VisitĀ Harris Park for the geese; any garbage can for the squirrels;Ā this unexpected trail near the airport for urban beavers; Spettigue Pond (in Westminster Ponds) for rare turtles; andĀ Nature London for advice on where to see feathered friends.
Ā
šæ Fantastic Flora
Beat the 401/400 weekend traffic and get your fill of Northern Ontario nature right here in London at Sifton Bog, where typically northern plants, like Sphagnum moss, cranberries, pitcher plants, and black spruce, can be seen from the boardwalk.
Ā
š Trek the Trails
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority maintains trail networks in Environmentally Significant Areas and Conservation Areas all across the city, soĀ hit the trails at high speeds or take it down a notch with this trail group.
Ā
š¤ Nurture Nature
A network of environmental organizations in London run programs that give you opportunities to both enjoy natural spaces and work to protect them. Fir the trees, connect with ReForest London;Ā for the river,Ā connect withĀ Thames River Rally; andĀ for the air,Ā the good folks atĀ Community CarShareĀ andĀ London Cycle LinkĀ have you covered. The list of environmental advocates goes on!
