021 - Fringe’in 🎭
Experience the closest thing London has to the wandering minstrels and bards of old with our guide to the London Fringe Theatre Festival. It’s live, in the moment, and unexpected which makes it a great place for both curious and familiar theatre goers to discover something new.
⏲️ Start with the Performer Showcase
At the Performer Showcase on May 29th, each Fringe act is given a 2-minute window to promote their play. It’s an entertaining evening in and of itself, and the showcase is a great way to figure out what shows you’d like to see in their entirety.
🗓️ Fill your Calendar
If you’re still trying to figure out what plays to see after the showcase, check theatreinlondon.ca for helpful reviews from well-schooled “Fringers.” Alternatively, the buzz on the street is a great way to get some first-hand advice, so use your time waiting in line for shows you have picked to ask about others. Finally, taking a risk and choosing to see something that sounds strange is definitely one of the best ways to experience the spirit of the festival!
🎉 Enjoy the Party
Aside from the plays, Fringe offers a number of associated events to take in and enjoy: Spoof night (where acts roast each other’s shows); Visual Fringe (an art show); Circus of the Stars (where performers can do whatever they want); Danger Zone (where performers do something they’ve never done before in front of an audience); and Workshops on tango, slapstick, and traditional Japanese puppetry!
🍻 Enjoy the After-Party
Every year there are official and unofficial drinking holes for the Fringe crew, offering a great place to meet the performers. Ask around to find out where this year’s thirst is being quenched, and we’ll see you there!
