005 - Intimate Music Experiences đ¶
Where does one go to experience the best of live music in London when festival season (or JUNO Week!) isnât in full force? Hereâs a few intimate experiences to help you get your musical fix any time of year.
Musical Chairs
A new home for live music, The St. Regis Tavern hosts Musical Chairs which provides local artists a chance to perform for their neighbours while promoting their fellow musicians. We suggest you check out Kevinâs Bacon Train for all of your âcover-grassâ needs. Oh, and if you think life canât get any sweeter, think again and participate in the âSweet Drawââan auction of pastries and other delights in support of the performers.
Â
Song Cycles
Debuting in late 2017, weâre hoping to see Song Cycles roll on into 2018. Hosted by Local Haunts, Song Cycles paired good music with local beerâin support of London Cycle Linkâat a venue just waiting for more intimate musical events (
Â
Sofar
Filling living rooms and other small spaces with magical music experiences, Sofar London encourages its audiences to âbe still and listen.â With venues announced hours before showtime, and acts kept a mystery until they hit the stage, Sofar provides some of the best secret gigs and curated experiences around this city. Youâll need to sign up to be notified of these experiences... so get on it!
Â
Porch Concerts
Nothing says âget on my lawnâ like the community coming together to listen to amplified music performed from a neighbourâs front porch. Whether you attend a concert in Woodfield or Piccadilly, or choose to host a âjamâ on your own porch, we canât encourage you enough to attend one of these live music events. Make sure to bring some cash to âfill-the-jarâ and help support the artists and all this front porch revelry.
Â
BONUS: DIY House Concert
If you havenât invited your neighbours over in a while, what better opportunity to do so than a house concert. Set some rules, throw out some pillows to make seating comfortable, and transform your living room into an intimate concert experience. We suggest inviting Craig Cardiff or Taylor Holden. Craig seems to be in London every-other weekend, and Taylor has a song thatâs titled Southwestern Ontario. Whatâs more local than that?
Next week:Â Romance.
