003 - Winter Excursions ❄️
Got the winter blues? Get out of the house and explore London through the many winter excursions the city has to offer. Most free, some physical, and many that can be enhanced with your leftover holiday ‘cheer,’ the following are things that we’re looking forward to experiencing over the coming weeks.
Hike Fanshawe
Bundle up and take a drive out to Fanshawe Lake for a winter stroll. Leave plenty of time if you plan on making the 25km loop because you never know if you’ll need to double-back if/when you come upon a Yeti. If you wait until early spring and trek far enough, you may even come across the Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush where you can experience the ‘best kept tourism secret’ as voted by Free Press Readers. We’d have to agree with them.
Defy Death At This Drop
Everyone in London has their favourite places to go tobogganing, and ours is The Hill Formerly Known As The Toboggan Hill (creative, we know). Bringing back memories from exam week in high school, this hill isn't for the faint of heart. Dropping out of the adjacent forest, you’ll need EMS onsite when you create a snow ramp at the bottom of the hill.* For those looking for something a bit more gentle, head across the field to a smooth casual ride down the Old Dump Hill.
Get Your Climb On
Not since Masonville housed London’s finest mini golf course, The Links, has there been an indoor winter excursion worth sharing. Junction Climbing now fills that void. If you’ve yet to visit, we highly recommend it. For students at Fanshawe College, you’re spoiled with your own indoor rock climbing wall, so don’t miss out on that either.
Create Your Own Rules Hockey
Grab your friends, your skates & your stick—ignore the posted rules**—and enjoy a makeshift game of shinny around the large rocks in the centre of the Covent Garden Market skating rink.
Do Boler
Regardless of what local ski bums might say, we’re lucky to have Boler Bump in our backyard for all of our tubing, boarding, or old-school skiing needs. With it’s upgraded chalet and ever-expanding options for outdoor activities, Boler provides great year-round experiences for the average #ldnont-er.
